Out with PG, in with HoCo. At least, that's what will happen with 2A South in 2017 as the region figures to be deeper on both the boys' and girls' sides. Out of the departing group only the Lackey boys and the Largo girls made it to the state championships in 2016.

The group coming in will be much stronger and could make the 2A South region one of the toughest in the classification. Both the River Hill boys and girls have been dominant over the past couple seasons and will be instant favorites for the regional titles next fall. The River Hill boys will be searching for their fourth straight state title (won the 3A championships from 2014-16) and the River Hill girls the second in that span as well. Oakland Mills, Marriotts Ridge and Glenelg will also be state hopefuls on both the boys' and girls' sides.
