We released this article in December when the new classifications were released but wanted to bring it up again since now that the 22-23 season has concluded the new classification will now take place starting in the Fall of 2023. We will be releasing Classicifction rankings and previews all throughout the summer using the new classifications so make sure you are checking the website often!
The Classification now reflects the fall 2023 season. Indoor classifications will be updated during the summer and outdoor classifications will be updated after the fall season has concluded.
The MPSSAA released the new classification divisions for all sports starting in the fall of 2023. Every 2 years the MPSSAA re-classifies each sport since school size will either increase or decrease over time. As a result, some schools may go up a division or down a division, or they may be placed in a different region within the same classification. The MPSSAA does this for each sport individually based on how many schools participate in that sport. So there are some cases where a team might be in 1 classification for 1 sport and a different classification for another sport. Reservoir, for example, is 3A for Cross Country and Indoor Track, but 4A for Outdoor Track.
Below we broke down which schools are moving either up or down a division for all three seasons and highlighted some big changes that may result from those moves.
