Earlier in the day, Howard's Courtney Mann had bested River Hill's Jasmine Tiamfook in the 1600. However, Tiamfook was not about to be denied twice. She sat in third place heading into the final lap, and it wasn't until about with 25 meters left that she surged ahead into the lead, but all that matters is who crosses the finish line first, and Tiamfook did that .13 seconds ahead of Mann.
