FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 22 - The third weekend of major invitationals in Maryland will bring 22 teams to the South Carroll Invite. Majority of the teams attending hail from Anne Arundel, Howard, Frederick and Carroll Counties. Races start at 3:30 PM at South Carroll High School.
Senior Katie Hursey of North Carroll won the girls race by 29 seconds last year in a time of 19:44. This time around Hursey should expect a little more pressure if she wants to make it two...sophomore Kelsey Hill of Severna Park will finally get her chance to match up against the 2005 3A State Champion. Predictions were torn between the two athletes for who would take the state title at the conclusion of last year\'s cross country season, but an injury kept Hill from leading Severna Park on race day. Senior Liz McCarter of Mount Hebron will challenge her 3A friends for her shot at a win.
The Severna Park girls, altough still competing with a split varsity, are out to dominate. Freshman Sadie Dempsey and sophomore Kelsey Kenealey will try to finish in the top ten to help the Falcons grab another win.
Senior Matthew Centrowitz of Broadneck is just in the early stages of what should become one of the most impressive cross country seasons Maryland has seen from a male runner in several years. Also competing at this race is junior Arthur Leathers of FSK, who won the Westminster Invite last week in a time of 16:34.
The Broadneck boys will run to win in their first time at South Carroll.
