University Boulevard rivals Blair and Northwood will depart in 2017 for the new-look 4A North region. The departure of the deep and talented Blair girls could open up another spot for a team to qualify for the state championships. Rising seniors Morgan Casey and Josephine Brane-Wright will compete for the 4A North title instead of the 4A West one. Neither boys team qualified for states last year, but Northwood's rising junior Obsaa Feda finished 22nd at the state meet last year and could become a contender in 4A North.

Wheaton will be the lone newcomer to the region; the rapidly growing school was in 2A just a few short years ago. Their boys are coming off a bit of an upset last year in the 3A South region. Their top three finishers from the state meet, however, are graduating this year, so they will face an uphill battle as they move up a classification in 2017.
