Brian Lane, Oakdale
The Oakdale boys have one of the best track programs in the state, and the pole vault is no exception. With the three-time defending state champion George Stultz focusing on the jumps at the state meet, the Bears simply plugged in the junior Lane. After finishing second in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet at the indoor state meet, Lane had been stuck on 12'6 during the spring before this past weekend. However he blew his old personal best out of the water, winning the state title by clearing 14 feet in the event. Oakdale should have another shot at a team title next year with both Stultz and Lane coming back.
