2A Girls State Meet Preview By Event

1600 Meter Run

River Hill's Faith Meininger (right) has won the Howard County and 2A East titles as a freshman, so can she complete the trifecta? One of her biggest obstacles may be her own teammate, senior Jasmine Tiamfook, who has finished on her heels in each of the past two races. (Photo by Brandon Miles)

Talk about a clump: eight girls enter this year's 2A state meet with season best times between 5:17 and 5:25. River Hill freshman Faith Meininger currently owns the tenth-fastest 1600 time in the state of Maryland, and she and teammate Jasmine Tiamfook are two of the four 2A girls who have run under 5:20 so far this winter.

Pooleville's Nandini Satsangi shaved nearly 30 seconds off her season best over the past couple weeks, turning in two separate sub-5:20 performances to establish herself as a contender for the title, as well. Beyond those top four who have run under 5:20 there are five more girls who have run between 5:20 and 5:30, meaning that this may be the deepest and closest race of the day - a stark contrast to last year's meet when Patuxent's Hayley Jackson beat everybody except for Julien Webster by over thirty seconds.
