MD #1 Performances, 2017 vs. 2018: Girls Sprints

Franklin's Tylar Colbert didn't compete at the state championship last spring but could be on a collision course with Bennett's Ashley Woolfork. The 3A foes bring almost identical (45.05 and 45.09) season bests in the event back for 2018. (Photo by Craig Amoss)

Masai Russell is one of the top hurdlers that Maryland has ever seen, a claim supported by her state-record 7.81 converted performance at New Balance Indoor Nationals this season. This outdoor season she will be chasing down the top state performance in MileSplit's database: 41.31, set by Old Mill's Alexis Franklin back in 2012. Two of the top returners in the event didn't appear on the 100 meter hurdles list: Bennett's Ashley Woolfork and Franklin's Tylar Colbert.

Others to watch: Lots of upperclassmen in the middle of this list, featuring some of the more well-rounded athletes in the sport (because the 300 meter hurdles requires a combination of the explosiveness and agility seen in jumping and the speed endurance in the 200 and 400).
