Kasimova, Centrowitz, Severna Park, Broadneck Take Honors at AA Championships

A progressively rainy day was the setting of the always exciting Anne Arundel County Championships. Brief summary...

Girls

Shortly after the race began race favorite Kelsey Hill (Severna Park) dropped out of the race due to an ankle turn, although this minor injury is not expected to prevent her from competing in the upcoming region or state finals. Junior Liya Kasimova, an athlete who has seen close-to-winning-but-not-quite finishes all too often in her two years of running, stepped up to claim the county title, beating out sophomore Hillary Lee (South River) and 2004 County Champ Tait Woodward (Senior, Broadneck) comfortably. Kasimova finished 3rd in both her 2004 and 2005 county campaigns.

Severna Park, although they trailed their opponents by one point at the mile mark, defeating Broadneck 41-49, although this score is the highest they\'ve have in years. South River was enough for third.

Boys

Anne Arundel County\'s first male three-year champion accomplished today what his sister did in 2003 and what Annapolis\' Will Eden tried to do the year after. Guess who!

Malik Zafar (Meade) beat out Chris Moody (South River) for an unexpected 2nd place finish.

The Broadneck Boys took home another one, defeating South River, Chesapeake and Severna Park respectively.
