County and State Rankings for November 2

Rankings are compiled weekly for the state of Maryland, its 7 most competitive counties as well as private schools. County Rankings and Rankings Corrections should be submitted to benmallare@ml1.net. Rankings include performances up to and including Tuesday.

Note: Athletes who have not competed in an invitational at this point in the season are not currently eligible to be ranked.

Female Athlete of the Week (10/26):
Morgane Gay (Walt Whitman) -
Overlooked by all but few, the junior blasted through four top-ranked athletes from Montgomery County to take the title at the championship. Her performance acts as a huge wake-up call to the state as Gay sheds her underdog status. She moves 16-7 this week.

Male Athlete of the Week (10/26):
Chris Barnard (Sherwood) -
Although it may have been predictable, Barnard's breakout performance at the Montgomery County Championships was a brilliant effort. Ten seconds slower and he would have finished 6th, but the new MoCo-ranked No. 3 grabbed runner-up honors.

Female Athlete of the Week (11/2):
Kelly Ramsburg (Urbana) -
Atholton's Alison Smith The sophomore separated herself from Urbana's other two leading girls when she stole the Frederick County title, also defeating county-ranked No. 1 Cortney Crouse (Linganore) in the process. The surprise win implies Ramsburg's vast potential for success in the latter two meets of her championship campaign.

Male Athlete of the Week (11/2):
Malik Zafar (Meade) -
Woodlawn's Dwight Parker Much like Barnard, Zafar came into his own at the Anne Arundel County Championships, defeating the previously higher ranked Chris Moody (South River) by almost 20 seconds. Both athletes ran great times for the challenging course, but Zafar's effort is tribute to his improvement over Moody and the rest of Anne Arundel county (less Centrowitz) this season.
