Meet Recap:

Liberty junior Nick Tilson, the #1 ranked runner in 2A classification, opened his season with a victory at the Mountain Run on Wednesday pulling away from a chase pack in the final two miles for a 17:51 victory. A basketball player during the indoor season, Tilson might not have the flashy track times as many of the state's top returning cross country runners but is looking forward to running on faster courses against greater competition from 3A and 4A schools in upcoming weekend invitationals including the Howard County Invite this Saturday.

Oakdale senior Charlotte Kowalk went up the mountain in second place behind Boonsboro's Haley Wright and came down from the mountain first place after Wright dropped out of the race. The 2A state indoor champion half miler Kowalk flew on the downhills and after holding off a final hill challenge from Catoctin's Julien Webster, pulled away for an 18 second victory in 20:52.

The Clarksburg girls may have not had a single individual finisher among the top 10 places, but thrived on their pack running and 46 second spread for their top 5 to win the team title by 18 points (78 total points) over the runners-up from Century (91 pts). Clarksburg senior Holly Mordoff and freshmen Kayla Sadd came across the line nearly identical times of 23:22 for 12th and 13th place as the team's top finishers.

The host school Oakdale made their competition run up a steep hill twice and then their boys team beat all of the other squads led by two top six finishers in Jake Hooper (4th, 18:11) and Evan Kowalk (6th, 18:28). With a team score of 62 points, Oakdale was clear ahead of the runner-up squad in Westminster with 92 points, who saw their #1 runner in sophomore Brandon Arbaugh edge out the chase pack trailing Tilson for individual runner-up honors in 18:09.
