A very special dual meet will be contested on Tuesday at Timberlawn Park in Bethesda, Maryland with the #1 ranked girls team in Maryland in the defending 4A state champ Walter Johnson girls racing against the #2 ranked squad in the state in Bethesda-Chevy Chase.

Last Tuesday at the Woodward Relays, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase girls defeated Walter Johnson racing head to head for the first of several times this fall. The untraditional cross country relay format played to Bethesda-Chevy Chase's strength which lies in their depth, but a dual meet scored event this Tuesday should swing back to Walter Johnson's favor having the superior top 3 with sub 19 5K runners Abbey Green, Emily Muprhy, Katrione Kirsch.
If Bethesda-Chevy Chase can somehow break up Walter Johnson's top three, especially with transfer Michaela Peterson stepping into the #1 runner role so far this fall, it might make things interesting and allow Bethesda-Chevy Chase's back end and #6 and #7 runners become important displacers.
Odds are in favor for Walter Johnson to win this dual as it will be a guaranteed victory if they take the top 3 places, but Bethesda-Chevy definitely has the depth to be a real challenger to the defending state champs in a normal invitational or championship meet with plenty of runners from other teams to help in the runner score displacement.
Interesting to note that Walter Johnson girls have a distinct blend of seniors and sophomores among their varsity lineup with exception of the junior Kirsch, while Bethesda-Chevy Chase has a freshmen not listed among below's top 7 fastest returnees in Virginia Brown who has instantly stepped into a top 5 role and run sub 21 minutes already this season.
