Maryland Weekend Rundown: 17 MD #1's At Central Invite!

Highlights:

  • Huge mark in the boys long jump recorded by Suitland's Isa Bynum at 24'7". Easily the best mark in the state after week one and also ranks US #1 for all-conditions as well! But will not count officially for a US #1 since no wind-reading, but impressive mark nonetheless for Bynum!
  • Riverdale Baptist's Stephanie Davis blazed two MD #1's and PR's in winning the 100 meter dash with a 11.5 clocking and then coming back to claim the 400 title as well in a 56.98 performance.
  • Northwest's Shyheim Wright and Andrew Daniels both clocked sizzling times in the hurdles with Wright rolling out a 14.0 victory in the 110 meter hurdles, while 110H runner-up Daniels had won the 300 hurdles earlier over teammate Wright in a 38.5 state leading time.
  • Northwest dominated the team competition as well as the distance relays winning both the 4x800 and DMR for both boys and girls.
  • Lackey junior Sydney Williams stormed thru the 100 hurdles to run a lifetime best of 14.3 to win the event after taking runner-up in the 300 hurdles (46.50) earlier to Eastern's Thea Shaw (45.40).
  • Northwest's Stephanie Bateky ruled the jumps on Saturday winning the high jump (5-0) and triple jump (36-11), while taking runner-up to Riverdale Baptist's Taylor Woods (18-8) in the long jump.
  • The meet had a total of 10 state leading performances for boys including Riverdale Baptist's Jonathan Simmons in the 100 meter dash at 10.70, Oxon Hill's Jabari Michael in the 200 meter dash at 22.13, DuVal's Gerard Amobi in the 400 meter dash at 49.89, Eleanor Roosevelt's Edward Belsoi in the 1600 meter run at 4:33.09. Northwest's Wright and Daniels in the hurdles, Northwest's 4x200 (1:31.05) and 4x800 (8:12.22) meter relays, Bynum's long jump, and Oxon Hill boys closing out with dramatic win over Suitland in the 4x400 at 3:24.32.
  • Largo's Taylor Parker won a very competitive girls shot put competition in a new MD #1 mark of 38'10".
