Southern Garrett junior Declan Horner has finished in the top five at the 1A State Championships in each of his first three seasons of cross country; most recently, a runner-up effort at this past weekend's state meet. With Will Merritt graduating this year, Horner will be the favorite for the 1A title heading into 2017. (Photo by John Roemer)

BCC's Adam Nakasaka gave Rohann Asfaw a good run for two and a half miles at the 4A State Championships. The good news for Nakasaka? Asfaw is gone next year - and he is not. He will be the top returning runner in the 4A classification heading into next year and may not have to contend with Bel Air's Kieran McDermott if the school is reclassified to 3A.
