Salute To Seniors: Alexis Postell (Bullis School)

Alexis Postell of Bullis School has been one of the fastest hurdlers in the state of Maryland over the last two years clocking personal bests of 14.18 in the 100 meter hurdles and 8.08 in the 55 meter hurdles. Postell has also ran many pivotal legs on her national class relay squads at Bullis in major meets such as the Penn Relays and New Balance Nationals, while running as fast individually as well including a 40.79 indoors in the 300.

She had major wins indoors this winter in New York including twice at the Armory for the Bishop Loughlin Games and Marine Corps Holiday Classic. Her 14.18 clocking at the Bojangles Track Classic 100 meter hurdles finals in April ranked her #3 in the state of Maryland for the season.

She'll be running next on a track scholarship at the North Carolina State University.

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?

My most memorable race was my junior year at New Balance Nationals indoor where I ran last leg for the 4x4 and it was the first time in NBN history that someone had two teams on the podium.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

I would have to say my teammates, lol. We contain a lot of high level athletes on our team. And in my opinion we are one of the most competitive teams. We will not go down without a fight. But, having high level athletes on your team really pushes you.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was being the first American team in the Championship of America section at Penn Relays in the 4x1. And I earned my first Penn Relays watch.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would not change anything about my high school track career. Without the many obstacles that I went through, I would not be the same person I am today.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I have had multiple injuries throughout my high school track career and they are by far the most difficult obstacles I have had to tackle. Sometimes I would just breakdown at the fact that I would get so behind in workouts and I would have thoughts that I would come back and be slow. During these times I had a constant feeling that all I had worked for would have went down the drain.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my team the most. Over these four years I have created numerous bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime. I am beyond thankful for them.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

The advice I would give to younger athletes is to trust your training and believe in  yourself because if you do not believe in yourself who else is going to believe in you?

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach is not only a coach but is my mentor. He constantly drills into our team the importance of character. Because you can run fast, jump far, and throw long but without a great character none of that matters. All of the coaches have helped shape me into the person I am today and have guided me through the process of how to be an elite athlete.

What are your college plans?

I am attending North Carolina State University. Where I will be continuing my academic and track career.

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

I would like to thank my family, coaches, and my team for all of the support and love throughout my four years in high school. Without them none of this would have been possible.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

When I came to Bullis, there were only 6 people on the team and now there are over 40 people on the team and our team is nationally ranked. Just wanted to give a little shoutout to Coach Lee saying that we have done all the hard work of building the foundation of this team and now the program is thriving. I could not be more proud to apart of the Bullis track family. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication coach!
