Over the past four years of the state meet at Hereford High School, some teams have proven themselves to be the best in November. Imagine a meet where each team's top runners from the state meet in 2014-17 competed head-to-head. Which teams come out on top in each classification?
4A Girls
Anybody but the five-time defending champions at the top would have been a surprise. You don't win five in a row without having some great runners behind Abigail Green. The next nine teams are relatively bunched together with the Dulaney girls as the only other team below 200 points. The Whitman girls feature the tightest 1-5 spread at just 30.4 seconds.
3A Girls
Both the Centennial and Northern girls programs have won team titles in the past couple seasons, with the Patriots having won the last two. However it's the Centennial girls who come out on top in this exercise. All four current regions are represented in the top ten. The tightest 1-5 spread goes to the third-place Towson girls at 53.4 seconds.
2A Girls
The Hereford girls have successfully defended their home course in each of the past three seasons behind some exceptional performances, including this year's winning effort from Emily Konkus. River Hill, Poolesville and Oakdale spent time in the past four years up in the 3A classification and brought some firepower to the 2A state meet this year. The River Hill girls featured a 1-5 spread of 32.9 seconds.
1A Girls
Winning three straight 1A team titles wasn't enough for the Boonsboro girls to overcome Catoctin, newcomers from 2A. Still, three consecutive team trophies is a decent compensation. The Brunswick girls challenged Boonsboro this year and finished fifth with all seven top performances coming from this year's meet. The tightest 1-5 spread goes to the Smithsburg girls at 1:14.8.
