McDonogh School senior Jada Seaman won the lone individual national title for the state of Maryland this past weekend at New Balance Nationals. Seaman leaped to a personal best mark of 21'2.75" to win the girls long jump on Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The performance not only improved upon her current state leading performance in the event, but was the best All-Conditions mark in the entire country this spring as the performance was wind aided with +3.2 reading. It is also the best all-conditions mark in Maryland high school state history. An All-American finisher in the event the past two indoor nationals, Seaman earned her first national title in her last national championship meet before she heads to the University of Virginia in the fall.
It was an impressive series of jumps for Seaman as she had no fouls among her 6 attempts in the preliminary flight and finals with her first mark being her worst at 18'11.75" but taking over first place after her fourth attempt and first jump in the finals at 20'10.75". Her best jump came on the fifth attempt. She nearly had 5 jumps over 20 feet with her fourth and fifth best marks at 19'9".
Seaman also earned All-American honors last outdoor nationals making both the finals of the 100 and 200, she was an All-American again in the 100 with a 11.76 clocking for sixth place in the finals. She clocked a high school personal best in the prelims with a 11.68 and another improvement upon her mark on the Maryland state leaderboard.
