The national powerhouse Bullis School girls track team normally are competing out of state each weekend on faster banked tracks at the Armory and Ocean Breeze in New York or two weekends down in Lynchburg at the Virginia Showcase. So it was a rare treat to watch them compete locally here in Maryland at the Prince George's County Sportsplex on Saturday at the Southern Maryland Classic.
Their day was filled with victories, meet records, state leaders, and fastest times of the season at the venue.
Leah Phillips led the way as the current national leader in the girls 55 meter hurdles was just off her season best (7.82) clocking a meet record time of 7.87 with teammate Ashley Wallace finishing in second also breaking 8 seconds at 7.99.
The Bullis girls also stacked their relays to run state leading times and among the nation's fastest on a flat track in the 4x200 (1:40.20) and 4x400 (3:57.71) meter relays. They certainly have the talent to run well under 1:40 and 3:50 once again later this season on banked tracks.
Victoria Perrow, a transfer from Archbishop Carroll (DC), won the girls 55 meter dash finals with a 7.02 clocking for the current state leader and junior. She ran 6.96 earlier this season at the New York Armory. Four of the top five finishers in the finals were from Bullis School.
Sage Hinton, who has been an AAU age group star growing up in Maryland, won the girls 500 meter dash at the Southern Maryland Classic as the 9th grader came out on top of the seeded section with a 1:18.28 performance.
