Northwood 4x800 & Paint Branch 4x200 Relay Into Records

Meet records are no easy feat in Montgomery County with its illustrious history of standout athletes and talent that has gone onto do great things outside of the county borders both nationally in high school as well as beyond at the college and pro level.

The Northwood boys 4x800 meter relay and Paint Branch boys 4x200 meter relay both were able to set bench marks and become the fastest ever in the Montgomery County's history of hosting indoor track & field championships.

It has been an impressive reload for the Northwood boys to remain relevant at this level with the talent loss over the last two years in the likes of 2018 graduate Eldon Phillips and 2019 graduates Obsaa Feda and Eldad Mulugeta.

Their team might not have an individual that generates the same individual star power as those three did, but collectively they are doing something special including the 4x800 meter relay on Wednesday evening winning with the second fastest time in the state this year with a meet record performance of 8:03.

The current state leader in the 4x800 meter relay happens to be also the national leader in the event at 7:49 in Richard Montgomery, another Montgomery County squad, who opted not to take a run at the meet record books this year with their relay legs focusing on individual events instead.

The Paint Branch boys dominated essentially every race from 300 meters on down at the meet en route to a second straight Montgomery County team title. One of their highlight performances was certainly witnessed in the 4x200 meter relay as they became the first team out of all the meets hosted at the Prince George's County Sportsplex to break 1:30 in the event this season with a 1:29.55 meet record performance.

Arguably a more impressive race than their 1:29.15 season best time at the VA Showcase this weekend on a faster banked track at Liberty University. Their relay legs also did some great things individually including a 1-2-3 finish in the 55 meter dash finals led by county champion Alonzo McBryde at 6.41 as well as a 1-2 showing in the 300 meter dash with Jaeden Burke and Chukwumdi Osuji going well under 36 seconds again together.
