Brunswick High School Railroaders

Getting vertical is the name of the game for the Brunswick boys, led by junior Jackson Tuomey, who has a good shot at breaking the current 1A state meet record in the pole vault. He is also one of three 1A boys in this year's field to have cleared six feet in the high jump. Fellow junior Noah McGillivray sits third on the 1A leaderboard in the pole vault at 11'1.

Largo High School Lions

Largo's 3:32 season best time in the 4x400 at the SMAC Classic is the fastest by a 1A team this season by six seconds.

For Largo it's all about the sprint depth as they qualified seven boys in the four individual events from the 55 dash to the 800 run. Seniors Jalen Jackson, Aharon Luster and Anthony Hill are favorites in the 300, 500 and 800, respectively, and they also won regional titles in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Senior Renaldi Falwell is also the only 1A boy to have thrown 50-plus feet in the shot put.

With Zane Chalker and Williamsport moving up to 2A this season, Kaleb Berhanu has taken over as the top distance runner in the 1A classification. He scored 26 points by himself at regionals, which included wins in the 1600 and 3200. Senior Donovan Hanson and junior Olutayo Sonuga figure to chip in some points, as well.

Freshman Cameron Rejonis has emerged as a force in the mid-distance events for the Smithsburg boys, winning the 500 and 800 at the 1A West regionals. Seniors Eli Knodle and Keenen Atkinson are also potential scorers, as is their regional champion 4x800 relay.

Surrattsville High School Hornets

Samir Smith finished second at the 1A East regionals in both the 300 and 500 meter dashes.

The Hornets only qualified three individuals for the 1A state championships, but they are led by senior Samir Smith, who has become one of the top sprinters in Prince George's County. He is a contender in both the 300 and 500 meter dashes and Surrattsville also owns the top 4x200 time (1:34.23) in 1A this year.
