In the four years of the Virginia Showcase, four Maryland boys have run under 6.50 seconds in the 55 meter dash, led by a duo from DeMatha. In 2018, senior Brendon Stewart won the finals, clocking what was then a 6.35 personal best. Finishing third in the race? Junior Nick Cross, who ran a season-best 6.43. The next year, with Stewart having graduated, Cross had taken over the reigns as the Stags' top sprinter, and he did not disappoint, besting Stewart's time in the finals by two hundredths of a second in a victorious effort. Stewart currently competes at the University of Southern California while Cross plays football at the University of Maryland.
