It's not often Maryland runners get to compete in the 1000 meter run, but the opportunity is presented every year at the Virginia Showcase. It's also a chance for Maryland runners to compete against some of the best mid-distance runners from Virginia. In 2018, Paint Branch senior Yasmine Kass clocked the fastest time in the event (3:09) that any Maryland athlete has run so far at the Virginia Showcase. It was the third-fastest time of the year in the state and one of the top 30 times of the decade on the Maryland leaderboard. Kass competed at the University of Maryland.
