At this point, most counties who planned a spring cross country season have begun, and many counties are planning championship races next week after spring break. This week we expand our rankings to a full 25 teams. We cannot rank teams who we do not have results from!

2020 Girls XC Individual Rankings - 2020 Girls XC Team Rankings

1. Howard High School Lions (hold)

Howard filled nine of the spots between third and 15th at last Thursday's meet.

2. Urbana High School Hawks (hold)

A 20:52 average at Walkersville on Saturday sets them up for a Frederick County showdown against Brunswick at the championship race.

3. Atholton High School Raiders (up 1)

Still in the driver's seat for the second spot in Howard County.

4. Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Barons (previously unranked)

Could freshman Varri Higgins be the next Montgomery County star?

5. Brunswick High School Railroaders (up 13)

Scored a big victory over Middletown on Friday, putting seven among the top 18 finishers.

6. Centennial High School Eagles (up 5)

One of the best top fours in the state, and showed it with a dominant victory at River Hill last week.

7. Middletown High School Knights (down 2)

Were missing a couple key runners at Thomas Johnson; could still definitely contend for a Frederick County title.

8. Leonardtown High School Raiders (up 6)

Parker O'Brien led the Raiders to a big victory over Northern. The two could be the top two teams at the SMAC Championships later this spring.

9. Reservoir High School Gators (down 2)

You couldn't break up the Gators' top five (34-second 1-5 split on Thursday) with a stick of dynamite.

10. Huntingtown High School Hurricanes (down 1)

The Hurricanes scored a narrow victory over Chopticon while not at full strength. They'll face off with Northern at the Calvert County Championships.

11. Hereford High School Bulls (down 8)

Piper Lentz and Estelle Snider give Hereford one of the best 1-2 punches in Maryland.

12. Northern-Calvert High School Patriots (up 1)

You can bet the Patriots aren't about to give up their SMAC crown without a fight.

13. South Carroll High School Cavaliers (down 7)

No such thing as a fast course in Carroll County, making it tricky to evaluate how South Carroll and the rest of the teams stack up against the rest of the state.

14. Oakland Mills High School Scorpions (down 6)

Despite a 7:20 1-5 split, Ella Harris and the Scorpions finished just ten points behind Atholton on their home course.

15. Oakdale High School Bears (previously unranked)

Don't mind a 21-37 loss to Urbana, as the Bears still averaged 21:34 and are in contention for the second spot in Frederick County.

16. Dulaney High School Lions (down 6)

17. Glenelg High School Gladiators (down 5)

A young Glenelg team will be fighting for a top six spot at the county championships.

18. Sherwood High School Warriors (previously unranked)

Sherwood was led in its season-opening victory by sophomore Emily Zanni, who ran 21:17 as a freshman in 2019.

19. Great Mills High School Hornets (down 4)

20. Linganore High School Lancers (down 1)

Junior Mikayla Moxley only seems to be widening the gap between herself and the rest of Frederick County with every passing week.

21. Chopticon High School Braves (previously unranked)

The Braves will be battling Leonardtown and Great Mills for a top two spot at the St. Mary's County Championships - the top two teams at both there and the Calvert County Championships will advance to the SMAC Championships.

22. Marriotts Ridge High School Mustangs (down 2)

They averaged 22:36 on a muddy course at Oakland Mills on Thursday.

23. Century High School Knights (down 7)

The two teams remained conjoined as we near the county championships.

24. Liberty High School Lions (down 7)

The two teams remained conjoined as we near the county championships.

25. River Hill High School Hawks (previously unranked)

Led by Faith Meininger and Chloe McGeehan, it won't take a whole lot from the 3-5 runners to make River Hill a top-six team in Howard County.
