PREVIEW: 62nd Annual Talley Zimmerman Invitational
Maryland's longest-running track meet is back for another year at Walkersville HS! This meet is distinguished from the rest as it does not run the 1600m or 3200m run, but rather its collegiate distance equivalents, the 1500m run and 3000m run. While it may not appear significant, for HS track it provides a head start into collegiate distance running for many athletes.
On the guy's side, Gov. Thomas Johnson is looking to take the win with 136.5 points, led by Luke Fremainis (26 points), James Partlow (15 points), and Thomas Sligh (15 points). Fremainis has run very impressive 110m hurdle times with a personal best at 15.02 (MD #14) and 2 races off of an undefeated outdoor season thus far. Partlow cannot be counted out as well, one of the top rising stars in the distance events with a name-making win in the Park Invite 5000m (15:31.34) and an impressive Indoor season finish at the state meet (2nd place 9:40.25 3200m). However, Linganore is looking to grab the team title for themselves with Kyle Walker leading the way with a projected score of 16 points. Walker, one of the most promising middle-distance runners from Frederick County with a current MD #14 800 of 1:58.22 makes a challenge for TJ to try to grab the meet win. Oakdale cannot be counted out of the race to the team win with a predicted 120 points with impressive predicted scorings by Donovan Harrington (22 points) and Grant Lohr (20 points).

The girl's side features Century on top with a projected sweep of 117 points (20 points ahead of the runner-ups) with the majority of their points coming from their promising sprint squad. Century is led by Isabella Mastria with 38 points in all three sprints plus the long jump and Alayna Gifford in the 1600m and 800m with a projected individual score of 14 points. At 97 points is Gov. Thomas Johnson, led by Elisa Ramos in all 4 jump events (HJ, LJ, TJ, PV) with an individual score of 33.5 points. Mastria leads the scoring but is challenged by Ramos who has an impressive indoor season record in her resume with highlighted performances in the pole vault (12-3 personal record, MD State Champ, 16th at Adidas Indoor Nationals) as well as Lauren Stine of North Hagerstown (27 points in all 3 distance events), who is one of the top athletes to watch at the event.
