NXR Maryland Recap

Hundreds of athletes from Maryland made the trip this weekend to Cary, North Carolina to compete in the NXR Southeast Regional. The big highlight of the meet was James Partlow's (Thomas Johnson) 4th place finish in a new state record time of 14:47. Since he was top 5 he earned a trip to the national championship in 2 weeks in Portland Oregon. Read all about the top performances below!

Boys Rising Stars Top Performances

Calvert Hall looked strong in the Rising Stars Boys race as they placed 2nd overall behind Miami Havana. They were led by Lucas Archer who ran 16:30 and Cameron Parker who ran 16:48. Thomas Sewell from Century was the top Maryland runner who placed 5th with a time of 16:28. Urbana placed 8th overall and Northern placed 12th

Maryland athletes dominated the girl's Rising Stars race. Audrey Wychulis (Northwest) won with a time of 18:53. She led for the entire race. She was followed by two of Severna Park's top runners Josephine Kamas who ran 18:59 and Jocelyn Diangelo who ran 19:06. Kathryn Murphy from SP also had a strong run with a time of 19:23. Since the Falcons put several of their Varsity runners in this race, they easily took home the team win with 27 points over the other 4 schools.

Maryland represented very well in the girl's invitational race! Walter Johnson and Centennial were the top two teams in the deep field of 22 schools. Walter Johnson took home the win with a team score of 77 and a 1-5 average of 19:27. Centennial ran strong too with a 1-5 average of 19:44. Their top 5 runners all return next year!

Individually it was all Maryland up front The top 5 runners were all Maryland athletes and ran some blistering fast times. Emile Creighton took home the win with a time of 18:31, followed by Alexa Avila, Katie Greenwald, Mackenzie Rau, and Ani Balin who all ran under 19 minutes. It's been a great end of the season for Greenwald as she has improved each race this year and looks to be back to her former fitness level heading into the track season!

Towson continued its strong season finishing second in the combined Invitational race. They were only 3 points behind the winner, Wilmington HS. Mischke and Cline ran very well as they both broke 16 minutes. Erik Penkala probably wishes he was in the Championship section as he easily won the race with a 15:25 performance, 17 seconds ahead of Joey Ensor from Howard who placed 2nd. 

Loyola Blakefield also ran well, placing 3rd overall. Howard placed 7th. Albert Einstein looked strong coming off their 4A State win as they placed 2nd in the first section and placed 10th overall in the combined results.

James Partlow made Maryland proud as he finished in 4th place and earned a trip to Oregon to compete in the National Championships. His time of 14:47 is a new Maryland state record! Cameron Davis was in position at the 2-mile park but faded over the last mile to place 16th with a time of 15:02. Calvert Hall was the top Maryland team of the day as they placed 8th overall in the Championship race.

With no teams in the Championship Race, it was the individuals that were the focus for Maryland. Evelyn Rogers was the top Maryland finisher with a time of 17:45. Right behind her was Emma Patrick, the sophomore from Severn running 17:46 and has emerged as one the best runners in Maryland over the last few weeks. Elena Blodnikar also joined those two going under 18 minutes with a time of 17:53.
