It's finally adidas Indoor Track Nationals weekend as the middle and high school indoor track & field season comes to a conclusion! Athletes from all over the United States and Canada head to the Virginia Beach Sports Center in what will be some incredible action over Friday through Sunday!
Four divisions will compete with Championship being the top division, followed by National Elite, Freshman and Middle School divisions.

Day 1 Highlights

Middle School Girls 2 Mile
Mckenna Groen (Parker, Colorado) won a battle with Sawyer Nicholson (Niagara Falls, Canada) running 10:42.07 to 10:48.07. The pair went through 1 Mile in 5:17 and Groen was able to close in 5:24 to run the fastest time in the country for Middle School girls.
Middle School Girls 2 Mile
Derek Locktish (Bulleye Running, Maryland) won the boys 2 Mile in 10:18.29. Locktish was in a lead group of 6 boys who came through the Mile in 5:16 with Locktish out front before dropping the hammer closing in 5:02.25. Elliott Salinas (Andrews MS, North Carolina) held off Zach Cratin (Bulleye Running, MD) for 2nd in 10:30.06 to 10:35.53.
Girls National Elite Pole Vault
*Update - In the unseeded section Ashlyn Weakley (Columbia, NY) set a new PR of 12-3 (3.74m) to better Burleson's mark from the earlier seeded section. This is over a one foot season best for Weakley indoors and betters her 11-6 from last outdoor season.
Abby Burleson (Avery County, NC) jumping 11-11.5 (3.65m) to set a new PR by 1.5 inches after winning the NCHSAA 1A/2A Indoor State Championships in February at 11-10. Mikayla Okuley (Brookville, VA) and Brunell Owusu (Gov. Thomas Johnson HS, MD) tied for second at 11-5.75 (3.50m)
Girls Freshman Shot Put
Taylor Wyches (Western Branch, VA) set a new meet record throwing 35-1.75 on her first attempt of the competition. She and runner up Kalex Baker (Texas Pressure, TX) both threw their best marks on the first throw on the competition with Baker tossing a 34-10.75 which would hold on for the top two finishes.
Boys Freshman Shot Put
Gavin Adams (Canal Winchester MS, OH) won the Freshman Boys Shot Put with a new personal best of 45-4.75 winning by over 2 feet. He acheived the mark on his second of six throws in the competition with Malaki Barnes (Corinth Holders, NC) and Michael James Jr. (Dale City Lightning, VA) would throw their best marks of 43-1.25 and 42-10.75 on their finish attempts for 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Girls National Elite Triple Jump
On her final attempt, Angel Neal-Smith (Butler, NC) moved from 3rd to 1st with a jump of 37-9.5. Neal-Smith was consistent throughout the competition with all six attempts being legal marks. Mia Williams (Fort Mill, SC) and Raeghan Melchor (Porter Ridge, NC) had big jumps on their fifth attempts with Williams clearing 37-6.75 and Melchor with a 36-8 to finish 2nd and 3rd overall.
Boys National Elite Triple Jump
Marshall Toney (Warhill, VA) won a tight competition in the National Elite Triple Jump with a new PR of 46-10.75. Toney had a monster jump on his sixth attempt to improve from 44-11.75 to 46-10.75. Mason Mills (Nansemond River, VA) and Donovan Richardson (Christiansburg, VA) were just behind with Mills jumping a 47-7.75 and Richardson matching his first attempt of 46-6.25.
Girls Middle School Pole Vault
Avery Del Valle (IMG Academy, FL) set a new Meet Record in the Pole Vault jumping 10-11.75 (3.35m) breaking Aubree Bowers mark from 2023 of 10-11. Del Valle cleared both 10-5.75 (3.20m) and 10-11.75 on her first attempt before missing out at 11-3.75 (3.45m).
Boys Middle School Shot Put
Samuel King (Fairley Track Club, MS) launched a massive best and personal best in the Shot Put on his final attempt to win the event in 52-2.25. Coming into the final throw he had a slight lead on Jace Gaither (Girard Warriors Youth TC, KS), but Gaither threw a 50-11.25 on his final attempt, which King was able to better with his final throw to conclude to competition.
Girls Middle School Shot Put
Seventh grader Ava Overton (Brunswick, GA) blew away the competition throwing a 45-11 on her final attempt. She landed all six of her attempts in bound sand over 41 feet which all would have won the event by three feet.
Girls Middle School 800m
Madison Lange (Elevated Distance Training, CO) threw down a major PR and meet record in the 800m running 2:15.66 by nearly 5 second over Lauren Uhle (Dale City Lightning TC, VA). Lange's personal best coming in was 2:21 and shattered Maysen Fletcher's meet record of 2:19.44 by nearly four seconds!
Boys Middle School 800m
Chance Anderson (Rockwall, TX) won the 800m in 2:01.89 setting a new personal best. Derek Locktish (Bullseye Running, MD) doubled back from his 3200m win to kick off the day to run 2:05.25 holding off Leif Gustafasson (Team Ontario, CAN).
Girls Middle School 4x200m Relay
East End Lightning (VA) won a tight battle with Charles County Elite TC (MD) in the Middle School 4x200m running 1:45.14 to 1:45.78.
Boys Middle School 4x200m
Charles County Elite (MD) would come back on the boys side and win decisively in 1:38.98 ahead of Irvington Knights Elite (NJ) who ran 1:40.54 to finish as runners-up.
Championship Girls Triple Jump
Michailyn Rose (FIA Ambassadors, VA) won a tight battle with D'Anna Cotton (Cummings, NC) where she just passed Cotton on her final attempt. Cotton lead the way through five jumps clearing 40 foot three times with a best of 40-7.25. Rose would have a big sixth and final jump one foot better than her second place mark at the time of 40-9.75. Cotton would get a chance to exceed her mark on the final attempt, but scratched. Kara Harris (Clover Hill, VA) would take third with a 38-3.75 best mark from her first attempt.
Championship Boys Triple Jump
Alexander Chapman-Evans (Enloe, NC) won a battle against Zachary Tamale (Buford, GA). Tamala help the best mark through the prelims of 47-10.75 with Chapman-Evans mark sitting him in second at 47-7.5. Chapman-Evans would jump a new personal best by one foot of 49-3.5 on his fifth attempt to overtake the lead. Tamale would have a big jump on his final attempt, but would fall short of Chapman-Evans with a 48-6.5 to finish in second place. Deimon Collins (Woodside, VA) would move just narrowly into third place on his final attempt by .75 feet jumping 47-0.75 passing Pedro Daviu (Blue Ridge School, VA) who jumped 47-0.
Championship 4x200m Prelims
Bullis School's (MD) 4x200m relay team of Sydney Sutton, Payton Payne, Kassidy Hopkins and Kennedy Brown set a new 4x200m National Record in the Prelims running 1:34.41! They broke their own National Record from 2018 of 1:34.75.
Their boys ran 1:24.64 in the prelims shortly after with a team of Cameron Homer, Quincy Wilson, Connor Salmin and Alexander Lambert to just miss the National Record set by Archbishop Carroll (DC) last weekend at New Balance Indoor Nationals!
