Crazy weather the main story at Prep

This was my team's first trip to Georgetown Prep. The campus and course were beautiful. The course is a challenging 5,000 meter course, with rolling hills all through the back loop. The story of day was weather. It rain at times, the sun came out at times, and yes it even hailed at times.

The boys seeded race was a very exciting race to watch. Duplinsky of Georgetown Prep and Ryan James of Gaithersburg took the pace out hard and Duplinsky lead through the first loop. During the second loop a group of runners began to close the gap. A fast closing and finishing Andrew Jesien of Walter Johnson took the victory in 15:54. The Gaithersburg boys, who some might say did not have their best day, outdistanced Herndon, Va to take home the team title 146 to 210. Gaithersburg had 3 finishers in the top 20 to secure they victory.

The girls seeded race was not to be outdone by the boys. Halsey Sinclair of Blair took the pace out quickly and was followed by 2 Va runners. Lauren Childs of Bryn Mawr and Allison Barnes of CMW took chase after the top 3. Sinclair held on for 2nd in 18:51, with Childs finishing 3rd in 18:56, and Barnes 4th in 19:04. Barnes's teammates were too far behind her as CMW took the girls team title by 50 points over Westfield, Va. CMW had 4 finishers in the top 20 and all 5 in the top 30.

In the small school boys race Tristam Thomas of McDonough took home the boys title in 16:40. Mt. De Sales was the top Md finishing team with a 2nd place finish. Archbishop Spalding put 5 in the top 30 to take home the team title.

In the large school race Allison Smith of Atholton and Kyle Gaffney of Blake both brought home victories. Smith led from start to finish and was never really challenged winning in 19:12. Gaffney had company early but was able to hold off a fast closing Andrew Revelle of Atholton in 16:53. The Severna Park girls team had another dominate performance winning by 70 points. Severna Park put 5 runners in the top 30 to take home the title. In the boys race the CMW boys were the top Md finisher with a 2nd place team
