It was a busy weekend for Maryland programs last weekend, which led to a contingent of strong performances from the state's rising talents in track and field. Take a look at four of the future stars brightening the Maryland scene!
Bishop McNamara
Class of 2029
The freshman led all Maryland underclassmen in the 400m last week, running 55.09 at the Panther Invitational. That kind of time this early in the outdoor season puts her on a short list of names to watch in the state - in her first year of high school competition! For now, Whitehead is the seventh-fastest freshman nationwide, and could move up that list with a sub-55 showing.
Davis ran 10.82 in the 100m at the McDonogh Boys Tri-Meet to lead all Maryland underclassmen in the event last week. He also clocked 22.62 in the 200m at the same meet, demonstrating some solid versatility for a youngster.
Fitzsimmons was the top underclassman in the 1600m last week at 5:15.36, and she followed it up with an 11:21.80 showing in the 3200m, both coming at the Park Invite. She heads into the latter half of the Maryland outdoor season as one of the top distance athletes in the state, and the best of the best in the Class of 2028.
The freshman ran 48.62 in the 400m at the Arcadia Invitational, leading all Maryland underclassmen in the event. It's no small feat for a less experienced athlete like him to show up and perform on a national caliber stage! Saxton currently ranks No. 10 among freshmen nationwide.
