Tigers Take Third Straight Towson Invitational

 

 

Towson recorded the top three individual finishers in the women's 5K race to take the overall team title.

HUNT VALLEY, Md.- Graduate student Katie Ogden once again paced the field, helping the Tigers take first place as a team in the Towson Cross Country Invitational at Oregon Ridge Park Friday evening. It was the third consecutive team title for the Tigers in the event, as they posted a score of 22. Odgen recorded a winning time of 18:37.94.

“It’s just tremendous the way Katie has been running,” Towson Coach Roger Erricker said.

Ogden, senior Kaylin Gilmartin-Donohue and impressive freshman Elizabeth Tauber finished first, second and third, respectively, helping Towson take the team title in the women’s 5K race. It was Ogden’s third individual win in three meets this season, while for Tauber, it was her third top three finish of the season. Gilmartin-Donohue’s time of 18:43.79 placed her fifth overall. She has placed in the top five in each meet this season. Katlyn Dillow,Erika Griffith and Kara Buccaro also finished in the top 11 overall for the Tigers.  

“When you see our team have the top three finishers, you can take a deep breath and be confident we can win,” Erricker said. “There aren’t any nerves. It was nice.”

Seton Hall freshman Mary Migton and Cynthia Anais of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore rounded out the top five overall finishers.

Towson was followed in the team standings by Hampton University, who placed second with a score of 76 and Mount St. Mary’s with a score of 95.

The men’s 8K race was won by Navy with a score of 19. The Naval Academy also had five of the top six male finishers, led by freshman Ryan Kelley, who won the event with a time of 26:00.26. Mount St. Mary’s came in second place as a team with a score of 59, while Seton Hall finished third with a score of 117.
