FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Navy men's cross country team placed 12th out of 24 teams at the 26th annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Falcon Heights, Minn. Competing with teams from several different regions, including three nationally-ranked programs, Navy finished 12th with 290 points, which was eight ahead of 13th-place Long Beach State.
No. 11 North Carolina State won the meet with 96 points, followed by No. 10 Portland and host-school No. 24 Minnesota.
Arizona's Lawi Lalang claimed the individual title with a time of 23:15.
"With all the top teams here, our goal was to finish in the top 10 today and we fell short," said Navy head coach Al Cantello. "We've got to have a fifth man step up."
Senior Cody Rome led Navy as he ran the 8k trail at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in 24:33, which was good for 16th place.
"Cody ran one of the smartest races today that he has ever run," said Cantello. "He ran very smart and I'm very happy with him."
Rome has now been Navy's top finisher in all three races in which he has competed this season.
James Pearson placed 45th with a time of 24:59 and Ken Bunnell made it three seniors in Navy's top three as he took 59th, crossing the finish line in 25:10.
A pair of juniors in Kyle Satterwhite (25:13) and Christopher Galvin (25:45) rounded out Navy's scoring five as they finished 63rd and 107th, respectively.
