After a month long winter break, the Johns Hopkins men's track team took a trip to the New York City Armory to compete in the NYU Gotham Open.
Senior Alison Smith's 8.14 in the 60-meter dash and freshman Kelley Hussey's 8.29 improved both of their lifetime bests by a small fraction.
Kelsey Bower and Emily Kashka both cleared 2.85 in the pole vault (9'4-1/4") but did not place.
Senior Steph Amalfe grabbed a third-place finish in the unseeded section of the shot put with 10.86 meters (35'7-3/4") while conference leading teammate Alana Merkowthrew 38', well down in the seeded section.
Meghan Kelly and Monika Sullivan moved to sixth and seventh on the Hopkins 500-meter dash list with runs of 86.51 and 86.84 seconds. Deirdre Caffrey, 3:22.21, andSamantha Brandon, 3:27.76, moved to ninth and 10th on the Hopkins 1,000-meter run list.
The Blue Jays return to action next week when they head to Maryland University to compete in the Terrapin Invitational next Saturday
