ROCKVILLE, MD -- In the few races which Ocean Lakes senior Matt
Keally has run so far this year, he has shown that he has the capabilities
to run in the national race in December. Keally reaffirmed his title of Foot
Locker finalist canidate with his course record setting time of 15:33
at the Georgetown Prep Classic as he broke away from a very competitive
field to win the race. Keally and Thomas Dale junior Alex Tatu took
the pace out hard to separate from a chase pack that included Georgetown
Day senior Ben Stern and Maggie Walker senior John Piersol. Keally\'s
pace was too much for Tatu as Tatu fell back considerably by the finish
where the obvious disappointment was too much as well. After the mile
marker, Keally set his own pace as none of the other runners could
make up the ground on Keally.

Piersol had a fine showing to take 5th with a time of 16:08.45, but
he must have been more pleased with his team\'s performance. The Maggie
Walker boys were able to defeat previously nationally ranked Good
Counsel of Maryland for the team title. The fashion in which they did
so was even more impressive as they beat them by a wide margin with
their team score of 84 compared to Good Counsel\'s score of 111. The
team had an average time of 16:50 on the course, which is a very strong
average on a course which ranks equally or even more difficult than
the VHSL state course at Great Meadows. Maggie Walker\'s #2-4 runners
packed it up real well with Jarrett Ridgeway (15th, 16:52), Andrew
Stegmaier (16th, 16:54), and Daniel Howard (20th, 16:56). Rounding
out the top 5 was Jonathan Charlesworth finishing 37th with a time of
17:21.

The Westfield and Hermitage boys squads also ran well taking 4th and
5th respectively in the seeded boys race. Westfield junior Brian
Buckland led his squad with an 8th place finishing time of 16:25. A
19 second spread between Westfield\'s #2-4 runners was a key in the
team\'s success. Westfield finished with a team score of 185. Hermitage junior Cary Chaffee had one of his better
races, taking 11th place with a time of 16:46 as Hermitage finished with
206 points.

Centreville sophomore Dacia Barr continued her very successful season
of cross country with a 3rd place finish in the seeded girls race with
a time of 19:16. Barr, led for the middle parts of the race and was
able to hold onto a high finish and excellent time.

The Paul VI girls took 7th place in the seeded girls race as senior
Mary Hogan finished 21st with a time of 20:31.

Stonebridge\'s Chelsea Henderson ran the last half of her race solo
in division 2 girls race as she cruised to victory with her time of 19:31.
Along with teammate Stephanie Dipinto\'s 4th place finishing time of 20:43,
the two runners\' performances helped lead their squad to a team title
in the division 2 section.
