Running on his home course one of final times, Walz put on show with a PR and state leading time of 15:27 to win by over 30 seconds against one of the top fields assembled so far for an invite.
2
Often forget that Joshua Tucker is actually Severna Park's top returnee from Nike Cross Nationals and he followed up a 15:30's 5K PR race in Pennsylvania with a 32 second win in Delaware over teammate and previous 5K state leader Andrew Forsyth.
3
The previous week, Forsyth was on top as the state leader with a 15:28 course record win at the Northampton Invite. Now he's not even his team's #1 runner with Tucker's decisive win over him this past Friday, but look for the tandem to be right near the front at season's end together.
4
Another strong invite win for Asfaw following up his Interstate Classic victory with another at Maryland Track & Trail with a 23 second margin of victory.
5
Two major invitational wins to kick off the season for the Good Counsel senior Wavering including a sub 16 race and 25 second win at Howard County Invite.
6
Debuted at the Barnhart Invite and tried to challenge #1 ranked Walz early, but instead had to work at the end to hold off his teammates Smyth and King. Just shows the gap right now between Walz and rest of state, but keep in mind still..Hengst is still on a sophomore.
7
Part of a very dominant team performance put on by Dulaney boys in their home invite with Smyth and his teammate Andrew King defeating virtually all other teams #1's including top 2 finishers from Seahawk Invite in Legambi and Bennett.
8
Nearly joined teammates Walz and Smyth with a sub 16 minute 5K to start season at Barnhart. Good sign for team having 3 guys in that kind of shape this early.
9
Easing into season so far with a relay leg at Woodward Relays and dual meets. Expect to see him racing this weekend at Oatlands again, which could be opportunity to assert himself back well into the top 10 rankings.
10
Might be one of the bigger individual surprises to start this season and all he needed he was one resounding quad meet victory against two runners coming off strong invite races in Wootton's Colin Sybing and Poolesville's Andrew Lent. Only a 4:46 miler on the track this past spring and his first season of XC as a senior.
11
A great win to start the season at Seahawk Invite with a swift PR time of 15:47. Didn't have as strong of a race at Barnhart Invite, but still solid top 5 finish in a stout field.
12
Has raced in two competitive races to start the season between Seahawk and Barnhart with his first sub 16 cross country race in runner-up race at Seahawk. Still based on track times capable of an even better showing and performances this fall.
13
After improvements made during track season, Harman has come out on fire after good summer of training with his only loss to Rohan Asfaw at Interstate Classic, but posted a quality time under 16:30 on home course this past Saturday at the Rebel Invite.
14
Races his first major invite 5K race this weekend at adidas Challenge down in Cary, which could be a good opportunity for him to break under 16 minutes in September on the NXN regional course.
15
Cave followed up his runaway victory at the Brunswick Invite by holding off a pack of guys for second place behind Good Counsel's Wavering at the Howard County Invite.

The first update to the All-Maryland Top 15 Boys Individual rankings since the preseason. We have already seen some major head to head contests just over the first two weekends, especially from the Seahawk Invite on the first weekend and the Barnhart Invite and Howard County Invite this past weekend. The state already has 8 guys who have broken 16 minutes for 5K with more expected to come this weekend with the Oatlands Invite in Virginia, the Blazers Invite at Hood College, and teams traveling out of state as well seeking more competition and faster times.

We have dropped out Ty Franks from the rankings due to a reported injury that remains to be seen when he'll return this season. Liam Walsh of Quince Orchard has also been MIA from his team's meets so far to have him dropped. Walt Whitman's Ben Gersch was one of last dropped out of this week's rankings update to make room for some early season impactful performers including Northwest's Bransoon Odoor, South Hagerstown's Darren Harman, and South Carroll's Brian Cave. However, Gersch races this weekend at Oatlands Invite and has a great opportunity to carry over that sub 9:40 3200 track success to a big-time performance in his first major invite of the season.

Dulaney boys are well represented with 3 of the top 8 runners in the state to showcase why many believe they are capable of going all the way this year as not only contenders to take the 4A state title, but qualify for the Nike Cross Nationals. Not so fast though says the 3-time state champion Severna Park boys who have might have the only two runners in the state between Joshua Tucker and Andrew Forsyth who can hang with Dulaney's ace in Eric Walz.
