Wildcat Invitational

Results:

Recap: Boonsboro's Haley Wright won the girls race by nearly a minute in a time of 19:15. Wright has really turned the corner in her last two races and showing herself as one of the top 5 runners in the state of Maryland after winning the small schools race at the Bull Run Invite two weeks ago over Brit Lang.

Next closest finisher was Middletown's Reilly Caldwell, who followed up her runner-up finish to Brit Lang at the Crossfire Invite on Tuesday with another second place showing at the Wildcat Invite in a season best 5K time of 20:10.

With four girls among the top ten places, the Smithsburg girls claimed the team title and 35 points ahead of their chief 1A competition in Boonsboro (70 pts) averaging 21:35 as a squad on the Williamsport High School 5K course. Two juniors in Mallory Maholt (3rd, 20:50) and Erica Lindsay (6th, 21:13) led the Smithsburg girls.

South Hagerstown's Darren Harman has already won a handful of races already this fall and added another at the Wildcat Invite. He had a bit of competition from Linganore's Micah Hewitson (2nd, 16:32) before pulling away for a 8 second victory in a finish time of 16:24.

The Winters Mill boys had their formidable top three of Taylor Russell (3rd, 16:50), Devon Caples (7th, 17:24), and Sean Gore (8th, 17:28) carry their team to victory in Williamsport tallying 80 points total to put them well ahead of the runners-up from Oakdale with 112 points.

Chaptico Invitational

Results:

Recap: A great three way battle up front with some of the state's top tier girls distance runners was found at Chaptico Regional Park on Saturday between Great Mills' Annie Imhof, North Point's Rachel Nueslein, and Broadneck's Natalia Jacobo. The three runners have faced each other before this season most notably at season's beginning at the Seahawk Invite, while Nueslein had beaten Imhof for second place in the large schools race at Bull Run.

This time around, Imhof came out on top and this time as the race champion winning with a 19:19 effort at the Chaptico Invite. Six seconds later came in Nueslein at 19:25 and 20 seconds back was Jacobo at 19:30 for third place.

The Broadneck girls behind Jacobo won the team title with ease posting a low team score of 33 points. They placed 5 runners among the top 10 places with Jacobo and not a single senior among the group either.

Interesting to note that the top 6 finishers were all juniors then a trio of freshmen including two younger siblings of talented runners in Annie Imhof's little sister Emily in eighth place (21:43) as well as Maria Coffin's little sister Anna in seventh place (21:39).

The Broadneck boys were also team champions like their girls at the Chaptico Invite led by race champion Michael Weber in a time of 16:55. La Plata's Miles Smith was able to break up the top two runners for Broadneck in second place at 17:15, just ahead of Broadneck's #2 runner Paul Squires (3rd, 17:17).

The Leonardtown boys had an impressive 25 second spread for their top 5 to help them finish second place in the team standings with 77 points.

Westminster Invitational

Results:

Recap: The return of the Westminster Invite after taking a hiatus from being hosted saw a small but quality field of teams and runners compete on their school's 5K course. It took a sixth runner tiebreaker to determine the boys team winners between Westminster and Liberty.

Despite having the top two individual finishers in junior Nick Tilson winning his fourth invitational of the season in 17:06 and followed in by his freshmen teammate Daniel Saxon in second place at 17:25, Liberty was edged out by Westminster on the tiebreaker with both teams tallying 34 points. The two teams had both team titles in the large and small school race divisions respectively this past Tuesday at the Crossfire Invitational at Liberty High School.

A consistent top 5 finisher in many invitational meets already this season, Liberty sophomore Heidi Rinehart finally picked up her first victory of the season at the Westminster Invite in a time of 20:16. She was able to put 22 seconds on her next closest competitor in South Carroll senior Erin Langille (20:36). Meanwhile, Langille was able to pace the rest of her South Carroll squad to the team title by 8 points over host school Westminster.
