5 Reasons To Watch 3A Boys Indoor State Championships

The New Kids In The Blocks: The fast heat of the 3A 300 dash is mostly comprised of track veterans - upperclassmen with many years of track experience. And then there's sophomore Nathan Phillips, whose quick rise has helped the Blake sprinters become one of the better groups in the state. He's been steadily dropping his 300 time this season, and set another personal best in his victorious performance at the 3A West Regional Championships. His 35.38 mark leads now leads all 3A boys this season and is a five second improvement from his personal best last indoor season. He's also a contender in the 55 dash and a leg on Blake's 4x200 that was victorious at the 3A West Regional Championships.

But Phillips isn't alone - his teammate, junior Ty Mason, finished right behind him in the 55 dash. He's also one of the state's best long jumpers, but due to the unavailability of jumping pits at the Baltimore Armory his talent won't be on display at the state championships. Still, he has a chance to score highly in the 55 dash and help lead Blake to a state championship in the 4x200. And when you realize that these two will not only be here this outdoor season, but next year as well, pay close attention to the Blake sprinters at this state meet: it may very well be a glimpse into the near future of dominance in the 3A classification.
