In a tuneup before competing in the Maryland 4A State Indoor Championships on Tuesday, Bowie senior Tajh Gilchrist traveled up to New York City on Saturday to compete in the high school boys 55 meter dash race against some of the top sprinters on the East Coast at the prestigious Millrose Games at the New York Armory.
It ended up being photo finish between Gilchrist in lane 3 and Ade Jones-Roundtree (lane 2) of Imhotep Charter in Pennsylvania for first place in the Millrose Games 55 meter dash as only two thousandths of a second separated the two. Gilchrist at 6.394 for the win and Jones-Roundtree at 6.396 for second place. With the win rounding up to 6.40, Gilchrist also broke the meet record previously held by another Maryland great in Darryl Haraway of DeMatha Catholic at 6.41 from Haraway's 2014 win at the Millrose Games.

In the girls 4x200 meter relay, the Elizabeth Seton girls broke 1:40 for the first time this season with an excellent race to finish second overall behind only current national leaders Paul Robeson in a US #4 time of 1:39.78.
The state of Maryland now has 3 of the top 6 fastest girls 4x200 meter relay teams in the country with private school programs Bishop McNamara (US #3 1:38.95), Elizabeton Seton (US #4 1:39.78), and Bullis School (US #6 1:39.89).

Later this evening, McDonogh School sophomore Dalton Hengst ran a new personal best of 4:14.48 to finish 7th in the high school boys mile knocking several seconds off his previous mile PR of 4:18.20. An impressive time for only a 10th grader and certainly sets himself up in his progression to potentially become the fastest miler in Maryland state history before he graduates.
