Gilman School Boys Run State Best 7:53 4x800 To Make Championships of America Finals

The Gilman School boys had been knocking on the door of sub 8 minutes for much of the winter and spring in the 4x800, but blew that time barrier out of the water on Friday morning running a new state leading time of 7:53.22. Their squad had 3 legs split under 2 minutes in Tommy Deihl (1:58.06), Wolfgang Drake (1:58.81), and Tory Young (1:55.44).

In Saturday's Championship finals, Gilman went well under 8 minutes again, but a few seconds slower at 7:55.28. Deihl (1:56.72) and Drake (1:57.02) actually ran faster splits than they did in the trials, but Young (2:01) struggled to muster the same 1:55 performance on anchor leg. Nonetheless, the Penn Relays experience shows this team could be capable of a sub 7:50 performance in the right race.
