Summer Training Blog: Rohann Asfaw (Entry #4)

Entry #2 July 24-30

Sunday July 24:

5.4 mile fartlek. Did three minutes cruise, one minute hard. This was my last run in San Antonio and I did it on the river walk in the downtown area. This was a bad idea because the river had a lot of twists and turns.

Monday July 25:

Ten minutes easy, 30 minutes at 6:05 pace, and ten minutes easy. I felt really tired on this run because I had played pool basketball with my friends earlier that day.

Tuesday July 26:

Eight miles easy at 7:26 pace. I ran to the Montgomery County Cross Country championship course and ran about two miles on it before running back home. I love the course so much I just had to take a stroll down memory lane.

Wednesday July 27:

Three sets of two mile repeats at 10:40 pace with seven minutes rest in between sets. This workout was alright but my legs weren't feeling great at all. I hit 10:36, 10:42 and 10:45. Overall it was still a solid workout.

Thursday July 28:

5.2 miles at 7:40 pace. This run was in the rain and I love running in the rain. I felt surprisingly good, especially after the two mile repeats the day before.

Friday July 29:

Four miles easy in the morning, and four miles at medium pace in the evening. I called my teammate Joachim El-Masry when I woke up and suggested we do a run right away. The run was pretty slow, around 8:30 pace, but it was the first run I've done with him since he's come back from an injury. The evening run actually didn't feel that great but I managed to stick with a 6:38 pace.

Saturday July 30:

Four sets of 1200s at my goal 5K pace (3:40) with four minutes rest in between sets. I felt amazing in this workout and ended up well under pace. I hit 3:37, 3:35, 3:34 and 3:33. This was the first time all summer my legs felt good and bouncy, so I took advantage. I did a mile warmup and cooldown as well.

Weekly total: 45.6 miles
