Shyheim Wright began his high school track career at Northwest in 2013, and little did anyone know he was about to become the greatest hurdler in Montgomery County history. He first qualified for the state championships in his freshman outdoor season in the 110 hurdles and only kept improving from then. He won his first state championship during his junior indoor season when he set the 4A state record in the 55 hurdles (7.27). As a senior he would repeat as state champion in the 55 hurdles, then capture two more individual titles in the 110 and 300 hurdles during the outdoor season. His 13.92 and 37.28 efforts at the state meet solidified his status as Montgomery County's greatest all-time hurdler and one of the fastest in state history.
Perhaps even more impressive than his individual achievements was the dynasty that he helped create at Northwest with teammates Andrew Daniels, Diego Zarate and Jalen Walker, among others. In his eight seasons of high school track, Wright helped Northwest capture the 4A team title in five. From the hurdles to jumps to relays, Wright was one of the driving forces behind Northwest's rise to the top of the best track programs in Maryland.
