Spiked Shoe Recap: McDermott Climbing Up The Maryland Ranks

Morning

Bel Air's Kieran McDermott kicked things off in the boys varsity morning race. After a runner-up finish last weekend at the Barnhart Invitational, he bested his personal best in a win with a final time of 15:44.70. Jonathan Ellis, Hunter Petrik, Justin Diehl and Nick Boogades rounded out the top five; all in all, there were 24 boys under the 17 minute mark.

The Dulaney boys looked strong again, winning their second straight invitational with a 48 second 1-5 spread. The Century boys were a surprise second place, taking advantage of an even tighter (38 second) 1-5 spread.

Then Hereford's Kelly Wesolowski took her turn on the course, breaking away from the rest of the field in a new pesonal best of 18:24.90. It was her first major cross country win in just her second major cross country race. Another standout performer was Archbishop Spalding freshman Lacey Eden, who finished second with a personal best of 19:02.00.

In the girls varsity morning race it was the Strath Haven, PA girls winning a close race for the team title; the Hereford girls, last weekend's Barnhart Invitational champions, settled for second place.
