It took a couple tries, but Linganore senior Micah Hewitson picked up his first win of his senior cross country season on Saturday at the Urbana Invitational. Hewitson set a personal best, finishing at 16:11 - almost 20 seconds ahead of the next runner. Hewitson's teammate Michael Belmaggio finished fourth in 16:32 (also a personal best). The Howard boys dominated the team scores. Junior Nick Deamer led the way with a third-place finish (16:31) as the Lions put five boys in the top 20.

Hewitson, however, wasn't the only runner at the meet with an impressive first. On the girls' side it was Poolesville sophomore Nandini Satsangi running away from Howard's Courtney Mann, finishing with a final time of 19:03. It's the first major invitational win of her career - and probably not her last, either. Satsangi's teammate, freshman Logan Rohde, finished third at 19:52; that young duo is certainly going to be one to watch in the coming years. In a rematch of the Brunswick Invitational earlier this season, the Centennial girls defeated the Urbana girls, 75-100. They were the only team to put three girls in the top ten. The two teams won't see each other again this season until the 3A State Championships in November.
