Top Maryland Boys Times From The Weekend

Vote below for Maryland's Week #6 Boys XC Runner of the Week from the October 8th week of meets. This week's batch of nominees includes Eleanor Roosevelt's Edward Belsoi, South River's Nick Boogades, McDonogh's Dalton Hengst, Elkton's Evan Shrewsbury and Southern Garrett's Declan Horner. It was an action-packed week around the state and many top performers got left off of this list, but every runner in this poll was victorious in a meet this week.

We left off some of the would-be repeat candidates to mix things up this week, but it was almost impossible to leave off Dalton Hengst after his win at the Manhattan Invitational this past weekend at Van Cortlandt Park. His final time of 12:28.30 was over thirty seconds faster than his time from last year's meet, and almost ten seconds faster than Northwest alum Diego Zarate ran in his senior year that topped MileSplit Maryland's pre-meet historical Maryland rankings. His performance also bodes well for his chances at the Foot Locker Northeast regionals later this season.

Back in Maryland, Saturday's slate of invitationals featured a ton of rain and mud. The Chaptico Invite featured the first-ever matchup between two of the top runners in the state in Westlake's Jay Hall and South River's Nick Boogades. Boogades outlasted Hall in the mud, earning his second big win of the year (Hood College Invitational). Over at Watkins Mill, Roosevelt's Edward Belsoi won the Wolverine Run for his first major cross country invitational win.

This week also marked the beginning of championship season. Elkton's Evan Shrewsbury held off Aberdeen's Daniel Foster at the UCBAC Susquehanna Divisional Championships on Tuesday, although his team lost on a sixth-runner tiebreaker. Southern Garrett's Declan Horner won the AMAC Championships up on the other side of the mountains; he may be Will Merritt's top threat at this year's 1A state meet.

Voting closes at 10 PM on Thursday! Voting is unlimited and feel free to share with your coaches, family, friends, teammates, teachers, and more!
