Since the Hereford boys were reclassified to 2A prior to the 2013 season neither the Towson boys nor girls have lost a 3A North regional meet. Both teams kept that streak alive in 2016. Towson's Jonathan Ellis continued his breakout senior season with an easy victory on his home course, nearly 45 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher (his teammate, Sushant Dhaurali). The Towson boys captured the top three spots in the race and halved the score of the next-closest team, C. Milton Wright.

The Mustangs used the smallest 1-5 spread in the race - just 41 seconds - to capture second place. They beat North Harford, who had finished ahead of them at the UCBAC Championships, by 19 points. Right behind North Harford in fourth place was Franklin.

There was a large gap between the fourth and fifth teams. Lansdowne and Aberdeen beat out Edgewood for the final two state qualifying spots. Dundalk's Bradley Allen and Edgewood's Javonne Savage were the only two individual state championship qualifiers.

Over on the girls' side, Towson kept their streak alive as well - but it was a much closer race than on the boys side. Wright freshman Haley Cummins continued her outstanding debut season, winning by over a minute by clocking an 18:21 three mile. Wright's top three runners, who all finished in the top ten, were all freshman.

However it wasn't quite enough to overcome the depth of the Towson girls who put six runners in the top 15, led by senior Karen Prem. The Towson girls had just enough firepower to hold off the upstart Mustangs, winning 40-42 for their fourth straight 3A North regional title.

There were only seven complete teams on the line Thursday, so only two other teams - Franklin and Edgewood - advanced to the state meet. No girls qualified individually.
