Patterson Mill junior Ashley Betz is one of just two 1A girls to have run under 20 minutes in the 5K this season, while Boonsboro senior Camryn Harper has proven to be one of the top runners in western Maryland this year. Harper holds the top three mile time by 1A girls this season which she ran on her home course at the Frank Keyser Invitational, followed by 1A newcomer Rachel Waldron from Catoctin.

Led by Harper the Boonsboro girls look to be the team to beat once again at the state meet, having won back-to-back team titles since moving back to the 1A classification in 2015. Betz and the Patterson Mill Huskies lead the horde of challenging teams, and don't count out the Northern Garrett girls who have two of the top three finishers back from last year's state meet.
