The 2A classification is the only one in Maryland at the moment in which no team has broken 4:10 in the 4x400. However that leaves the door open for a potentially thrilling and wide-open state meet race. The Seneca Valley girls have fielded some of the top girls' relay teams in 2A this season, with the 4x400 being the real strength. They have dropped back-to-back 4:11 performances, three seconds faster than any other team has run.

The Hereford girls feature a deep mid-distance girls' squad that has been mostly confined to the Baltimore Armory this season. Their 4:14.80 effort at the HoCo Winterfest back in mid-December still stands as their season best, but they will get another opportunity at the Sportsplex nearly two months later to see how far they've come.

Four other teams have gone under 4:20 so far this season, and it's a mix of distance-oriented squads like Damascus and South Carroll and sprint-oriented squads like Mount Hebron and Westlake. These six teams could probably finish in any order and it wouldn't be any bit of a surprise.
