Last year fans were treated to a show in the 2A girls pole vault, with Hereford's Alexandra Butz and Walkersville's Kelcie Robertson matching each other nearly vault-for-vault all the way to 11'6, with Butz eventually winning on a tiebreaker. Both girls graduated in 2017, leaving a more open field this winter. North Caroline's Katie Saathoff has the best performance so far this winter at 10'6, and was the third-place finisher in last year's competition.
Only three other girls have cleared 9'6 this season, including two who went head-to-head at the 2A West Regionals. Middletown's Allie Watt and Oakdale's Maegan Gabby both cleared 9'6 at regionals (neither being their season best) and Watt won on a tiebreaker.
