MD #1 Performances, 2017 vs. 2018: Girls Sprints

St. Mary Ryken's Kelisa Cain ran the fastest 100 meter dash time of 2017 in June at the AAU District Qualifier, and she will have to keep the wheels turning to hold off the rest of the field as six of the top seven sprinters from last year are back. (Photo by Adrian Hood, Sr.)

The two fastest girls in the state from last year are back in 2018, as St. Mary Ryken's Kelisa Cain and Bullis' Ashley Seymour were the only two girls in the state to run under 11.50 seconds in the 100 meter dash (which they both did during the summer months). Overall, just three of these girls (O'Neal, Morgan and Williams) graduated last spring, so there's a good chance this leaderboard gets even faster in 2018.

Others to watch: Bullis' Shaniya Hall made a big leap as a sophomore this winter, as she was the only Maryland athlete to break 7.00 in the 55 meter dash; she ranks as the ninth-fastest returner in the state in the event but could find herself atop the list; Franklin's Tylar Colbert may be able to crack the list, as well, as she finished sixth on the indoor 55 meter state leaderboard with her 7.08 New Balance Indoor Nationals performance.
