Dozen Girls To Watch At 2018 MPSSAA State Championships

Abbey Green (Walter Johnson)

One of the best girls distance runners to come out of the state of Maryland will look to wrap up her high school career in-state this weekend with 3 more state titles from Walter Johnson's Abbey Green.

Green has virtually been unstoppable for her senior year without any serious challengers to her in the distance events within the state. She is coming off an incredible triple at her regional meet posting PR's in all 3 races at the 4A West Regional in 2:14.63 800, 4:55.34 1600, and 10:21.97 3200.

The Foot Locker All-American and UVA recruit will be the top seed and heavy favorite to win her first two events of the 3200 and 1600 meter run as 50 seconds in the 3200 and 8 seconds in the 1600 separate her from the next fastest seeds in those events. The 5-time state champion Green may have a tougher test at the end of her triple in the 800 against indoor state champ Emily Knight and freshmen Emily Auderset. She was a runner-up indoors in the 800 after winning the 1600 and 3200 earlier.
