It was one of the top 3200 races in Maryland state indoor history, even though it didn't start like it. Midway through the race, however, Northwood senior Eldad Mulugeta made a big move to open some space on the rest of the field. Although the rest of the field never caught back up to Mulugeta, they didn't fade by any means. Four boys - South River's Sam Keeny, Mulugeta's teammate Obsaa Feda and Severna Park's Garrison Clark - all ran 9:17 or faster. Three more boys still ran 9:30 or faster to round out one of the deepest fields in Montgomery Invitational history.
