Meet Recap: 2021 Great American XC Festival


The Great American XC Festival was hosted once again at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. 15 different states participated in the meet, and it was an especially great day for Maryland runners. Two teams, in particular, stood out; Both the Howard and Severna Park teams made names for themselves at the meet. 


(Tyler Canaday finishes first with 15:10.00, an MD No.6 all-time)

From Severna Park, senior Tyler Canaday had an incredible performance, placing third in the Boys Race of Champions with a blistering time of 15:10.00, which is an MD No. 6 all-time. The next Severna runner was senior James Glebocki, finishing 14th with a time of 15:34.90, making Severna the first team to have its second runner finish. The team's third runner also placed in the top 20 as senior Eddie Sullivan finished 18th with a time of 15:43.70. The rest of the pack managed to break the top 70: Ronan Byrne (16:15.30) in 51st; Liam Hagerty (16:18.10) in 55th; Tyler Engleman (16:21.50) in 63rd; Mason Siebenhaar (16:26.40) in 70th.

Ultimately, Severna Park placed as one of the top five teams. They finished second overall with a score of 105 points.

(Joseph Raudabaugh finishes first with a time of 15:33.00)

From Howard, senior Joseph Raudabaugh had a phenomenal performance with a first-place finish in the Boys Seeded race with a time of 15:33.00, his personal best. The rest of his teammates made it within the top 100: Makilan Balasubramanian (17:12.30) in 68th; Christopher Mann (17:15.70) in 71st; Nick Yankle (17:22.80) in 75th; Ryan O'Byrne (17:24.70) in 78th; Brandon Franco (17:27.40) in 83rd; Kyle Jones (17:42.20) in 99th.

A notable performance from another Marylander that made the ranks was Mount De Sales senior Juliette Whittaker. She finished with a staggering time of 17:44.10, making her the eighth-place finisher in the Girls Race of Champions.

Once again, the Howard team stood out as their girls placed third overall in the Girls Race of Champions. Senior Nimrit Ahuja led the pack finishing in 28th with a time of 18:41.60. The next runner on the squad was sophomore Kiley Mann placing 31st with a time of 18:43.20. Seniors Jasmine Wilson (19:01.70) and Elizabeth Holcombe (19:03.20) placed 43rd and 44th, respectively. Their fifth-place runner was senior Hannah Schwab with a time of 19:14.60. Their last two runners were Alison Ferris in 139th and Margaret Krieg in 139th. Led by Ahuja, the Howard girls snagged third place with a total of 149 points.
